There was an apparent loop problem at the intermediate timing point so a number of passings there were not recorded.

Race Report

Andrew Candy put down his 200th ATTA ride today in not-too-good personal condition - but he endured, completed the course and didn't have to resort to his 'Plan B'–the opt-out circuit - the 160 'finishing' circuit. But Jason Lord used it - his comeback ride after a long layoff through injury was attacked with the finishing circuit done first. It was just another variant of the Pinjarra|West Coolup circuit: we now seem to have 10 variants.

First-time ATTA rider David Buitendag had promised to 'drop some [serious] watt-bombs' in his first ITT and probably did, leading the 80k riders' rankings. Chris Roberts and Steff VanA held sway in the 1-lapper and Steff, the 82km record holder on this course settled for one of today's few PBs. The lack of any PBs on the 80km list is explained by the fact that the only rider today with a 'previous' to beat was Phil Deisel and he was well on the way to a new best, beginning with the second fastest time today for the first 24km; having reached the intermediate timing point for the second time, that was as far as he got - the last 21km were not going to happen.

Iain MacLennan was our man on the first corner, the turn onto Forrest Hwy and was also the rescuer of Lorraine MacLennan who had punctured. So it took Lorraine a long time to get to the beginning of Old Bunbury Rd for the second time. But she did finish! Troy brought the equipment trailer did his usual course setup, followed by a quick 46km and then went off to collect some footage with his new drone. Lenny and Jenny McIntyre looked after the rego-desk; Marcel Weijers (another on the injured list) was the new man wearing the starter's hat; Rick Churchill and Andrew White with his take on 'hi-vis' clothing (definitely not the 'industrial' look, but how could you miss him? Nevertheless one rider did - despite him heading off towards Bunbury, they dragged him back) were the blokes at the turn into Old Bunbury Road while, 18km away at the other end, was Stuart Murray.

And very large buckets of gratitude are due to Alex Cairnduff who, yesterday removed lots of debris from the bike lane on Forrest Hwy and, early this morning, swept broken glass from the course.

The big disappointment of the day was the lack of anyone handing out ice-creams at the finish; we do apologise, Gregor and will try to do better.

Goodbye.
